Hi, I’m Barbara. I started this blog to educate the general public about health, nutrition and well-being.
I am not a licensed health practitioner, but I’ve done a lot of research on these topics. So, why am I so interested in the health & wellness industry? There are many reasons for my obsession with these topics.
So many people I care about are ill or sick:
- People I know have been diagnosed with cancer or have lost their lives to cancer.
- I have seen how heart disease and strokes can impact a person’s life.
- I have seen how eating poorly can leave people weak, sick & make people look older than they really are.
I saw first hand how devastating addictions can be and how they rob people of a life of enjoyment and satisfication. I have seen how the ill-effects of alcohol and smoking can wreak havoc on the human body and lead to disease.
Not by coincidence, I believe, the people in my life who suffer from these diseases and problems also do not make healthy living and eating a priority in their lives. Food can impact our moods & thoughts. The wrong foods can make us feel tired, depressed, or lethargic. Eating the wrong foods can also lead to poor concentration & memory problems.
My Driving Purpose
I wanted to know what the secret was to longterm health & longevity. I wanted to know what foods give us energy, leave us feeling satisfied & healthy, and contribute to longterm health. I wanted to know how we can age gracefully and not look older than our years. There are age-defying foods and foods that make us sick & make us look older, tired and don’t sustain our energy.
I truly believe that living purposeful and meaningful lives all starts with nutrition. Eating right feeds your mind and gives your body the energy to function resourcefully. With the right foods, we can optimize our full potential because we have the energy and capacity to utilize our skills, talents and ambitions to the highest degree.
There are life sustaining foods, and there are specific foods that are ravaging our bodies with disease. Fueling our bodies with the right foods is critical to long-term health and wellness.
But health & wellness doesn’t just end with eating the right foods & caring for our bodies by eating an optimal diet that leads to vibrant health & prosperity. Not only do we have to worry about what we ingest but we must be careful what we apply to our skin & bodies. Do we often think that our body lotion, body wash, shampoo or makeup can cause us to become ill & cause debilitating diseases that rob us of our health? …of course not!
What we put externally onto our bodies can affect us internally.
What is Health?
Being healthy, to me, means striving to become a conscientious buyer; making sure that the products I use won’t negatively affect me, my family and the Earth. Being healthy means carefully deciding which brands I choose to purchase, and what I put in my body. Being healthy means taking control of my own health & not putting into the hands of others.
Health is also supported by choosing positive thoughts, actions and affirmations versus negative ones. Health & wellness is also about attributing meaning and purpose to your life. It is about having a zeal for life and living without regrets. A healthy body is one that is free of stress and damaging toxins.
How Our Bodies Become Stressed
Mental stress occurs when we burden ourselves with non-productive thoughts & actions. Our bodies become physically stressed when toxins enter them and accumulate from the foods we eat, and from our environment.
I’ve become vigilant in my search for ways to eliminate mental stress from my life, so that I can enjoy life to its fullest, and also teach others to do the same. I have also learned a lot about the effects of pesticide-laden & genetically modified (GMO) foods that fill our stores, and the toxic sludge that is found in most personal care products.
I’ve also committed to living a life full of physical activity. A strong body is more resilient to disease and pain. On my blog, you will see that I enjoy sharing tips & advice when it comes to improving your physical fitness level.
