Henna products are known to condition and infuse moisture into the hair. Henna is great for your scalp, and is also good for those who have dandruff. Even though henna is semipermanent, it gradually washes away as new hair grows in — which means that you won’t have noticeable roots like you would with permanent hair dyes!
Barbara’s Tip #1
Since henna hair dye is a plant-derived product, one batch can vary from another batch. Keep this in mind if you plan on re-dying your hair before your old dye is completely washed out.
About Color and Duration
Henna can only make your hair darker, not lighter. But henna does create more shine and adds nice highlights to the hair. Henna hair coloring will last a good 2-3 months.
Barbara’s Tip #2
After applying henna to your hair, the color may seem “off” for a few days. It may look dull at first, but be patient; after a few days it will look much more nice =)
After Applying Henna to Your Hair
When using henna hair dye, it is important to not shampoo your hair for at least 24 hrs since it needs to time to set in. But after your treatment, you will need to rinse the excess henna out of your hair using warm water only. Here’s a great tip: as you’re applying the henna, you can add a teaspoon of Euro Oil or any good oil to the mixture so the henna will rinse out easier and tangle your hair less.
Henna on Chemically Treated Hair
It is also important not to use henna in your hair if you just chemically treated your hair, ie with color or have a permanent wave. The reason not to is that the chemicals used in these products can react with the henna.
Barbara’s Tip #3
If you have chemically colored your hair, used bleach, relaxers or had a perm, make sure you wait 4 to 8 weeks for your hair to recover before applying henna.
About Colorless/Neutral Henna…
If you wish to add gloss and sheen to your hair, consider colorless henna (aka neutral henna). This type of henna also gives your hair body and aids in hair growth. Colorless or neutral henna really does a great job at conditioning the hair and gives it luxurious shine.
Barbara’s Tip #4
If you used colored henna to naturally dye your hair; you may also use the colorless or neutral henna after 72 hrs to condition your hair and give it extra shine.
